What is PRP?
PRP is Platelet Rich Plasma derived from the patient’s blood plasma
The Magic is in our own blood
PRP Therapy for hair loss or naturally thin hair can be highly effective to regrow hair or improve hair quality in men and women of all ages. Millions of men and women around the globe suffer from thin hair or hair loss for various reasons. Dr. Farah Sultan incorporated PRP Therapy because she understands that hair loss can affect the confidence and the overall emotional wellbeing of the individual suffering from hair loss. Our skilled staff extracts a small amount of blood from the patient during the visit, followed by separating the platelet rich plasma from the rest of the blood with a system called a centrifuge. The platelet rich plasma is then injected into areas of the scalp where hair thinning has occurred. PRP can be an effective treatment for hair loss caused by hormonal changes, hair loss caused by stress, hair loss caused by trauma, and also hair loss caused by traction (tight hairstyles, tape ins, weave). We also found that PRP Therapy can be effective in slowing down genetic hair loss such as male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness.
In the past decade PRP has become very popular in aesthetics for skin rejuvenation and seems effective for male and female rejuvenation. Furthermore, platelet rich plasma therapy can be very helpful to assist in prep for hair transplantation, during hair transplantation to improve survival of hair grafts, and after hair transplantation to speed up the healing of hair grafts. Though we do not offer hair transplants we also offer microneedling with plant derived growth factors called DE|RIVE
Is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy safe?
Yes, it’s considered a very safe, natural, relatively affordable, and less invasive alternative treatment option than hair transplant surgery. Dr. Farah Sultan, who performs it frequently, says it can stimulate the follicles and slow down the rate of hair loss. There are no side effects or allergic reactions because the blood is derived from the patient’s own body.
- Platelets in your blood contain important growth that serve as cell-signaling agents that orchestrate the body’s tissue rejuvenation and healing systems. Plasma is the fluid in blood that carries the platelets, along with red blood cells and white blood cells.
- During the PRP procedure, our physician Dr. Farah Sultanseparates the Platelet Rich Plasma from your blood with a centrifuge, processing them to concentrate these growth factors.
- Injected into the scalp, PRP increases blood flow to the hair follicles, stimulates hair follicles, and lengthens the anagen (active) growth phase of existing hair, to slow hair loss.
- “PRP can stimulate weak and sometimes dormant hair follicles to grow. “Studies suggest that you get an increased number of hair follicles and increased thickness in the hair shaft.”
- PRP Therapy should be repeated up to 3-4 times per year initially to achieve the full effect and can also be combined with Laser Light Therapy at home for even better
Dr. Farah sultan will also identify the root cause and cater each treatment to the individual patient’s need in conjunction with hormone replacement therapy, supplements, laser cap, and hair loss products.
